modern history of switzerland
Switzerland has a history of being famously neutral, and was not invaded during either of the World Wars. In World War II invasion plans were drawn up by Germany, but were not carried out. Switzerland kept its independence through military deterrence and economic concessions to Germany. Despite strict immigration and asylum policies, Switzerland interned over 300,00 refugees.
In 1920 Switzerland joined the League of Nations, and in 1963 joined the Council of Europe.
